Our specially crafted cushions and throw pillows come in many varieties to accompany rattan and wicker furniture, from indoor sectionals to outdoor chaise lounges.  We manufacture all of our cushions for our furniture collections in-house in Brooklyn, and are able to customize replaceable sets for our authorized retailers.  See below for our detailed guide to ordering cushions.  .

Guide to ordering cushions:

1. Select a fabric casing based on indoor/ outdoor usage

2. Select a cushion stuffing

3. Select the cushion thickness (seat/back cushions only)

4. Determine the cushion shape (replacements only)

5. Include any necessary add-ons

1.  Select a fabric casing

We offer a wide range of indoor and outdoor fabrics.  Determine where the furniture will be used (indoor vs outdoor)  and visit the Fabric Swatch Gallery to select the fabric swatch that suits your needs.   Note that indoor fabrics can only be used indoors; however our versatile outdoors fabrics are suitable for all uses.

2. Select a cushion stuffing

In addition to the outer casing, a cushion's comfort and durability depends on its stuffing.  We offer 4 types of stuffing material to fit every need.

1. 100% Siliconized Polyester Fiber:  Inexpensive and great for pillows and back cushions.  It is not made for everyday use because it can lose its shape over time, and start to flatten out.  However, 100% Silconized Polyester Fiber is popular for patio sets due to its casual use and value.

2. High Density Polyurethane Foam:  Best used indoors, such as in a den, sunroom, or covered porch, this foam will maintain the shape of the cushion for years.  We offer various compressions (soft to hard) and thickness (measured in inches).  HDP Foam is a great alternative to the premium-priced Outdoor EVA-DRI Foam; however it will require special care and attention.   If you are using HDP Foam outdoors, we recommend using a Sunbrella outdoor fabric casing, and storing the cushions upright or indoors when not in use.

3.  Densified Fiber:  Made of compressed polyester layers, this material will not absorb moisture as much as polyurethane foam.   It is used in commercial outdoor furniture cushions because it is less expensive than EVA-DRI foam.  However Densified Fiber does not perform as well as Outdoor EVA-DRI Foam, as it tends to flatten out at the middle of cushion, and lose its shape over time.  To improve the performance of Densified Fiber cushions, we insert a layer of 1” solid high density foam at the middle of the Densified Fiber to delay sagging.

4.   Outdoor EVA-DRI Foam: The most premium and moisture resistant outdoor foam. The moisture will not be trapped inside this foam due to the special structure.  With SUNBRELLA Acrylic casing , this cushion will perform best for outdoor use.

3.  Select the cushion thickness (for seat/ back cushions only)

To maximize seating comfort, here are recommended thicknesses.

1" - 1.5": Thin seat pads, back cushions for shallow seated furniture
2" - 2.5": Desk chairs, barstools, dining chairs, benches, windowsills
3”: Patio sets (chair, rockers, loveseats, sofas, ottoman & chaise lounges), dining furniture, benches
4": Mid-size patio and dining sets that require seat cushions 22” to 23” deep, ottomans, chaise lounges, back cushions
5" & above:  M
ost popular for full-size, deep seat furniture (23” to 26” deep), back cushions, sectionals

4. Determine the cushion shape (for replacements only)

The cushion shape will depend on the shape of the furniture.  All furniture from Asiatic Mercantile comes with standard cushions, so we take the guesswork out for you.  However if you are ordering replacement or customized cushions, here are different shapes to consider.

1. Rounded back corners

Note: When ordering custom cushions with rounded corners, please provide a template of the corner to ensure proper sizing.

2. Rounded front corners

3. Round and oval

4. Rectangular and square

5.  Include add-on details

Feel like adding some extra detail to enhance the look of your cushions and toss pillows?  Here are few options:

Tufting: Offers form & function.  Tufting adds a classic, sophisticated look and also helps keep polyester fiber fills evenly distributed in pillows, and seat/ back pads.   Available for porch chairs, rockers, loveseats, sofas, ottomans, chaise lounges, gliders, and swings.

Piping: Wraps around a foam cushion or toss pillow for a soft look

Ties: Holds seat cushions in place.  Highly recommended for dining chair pads that are prone to slippage from furniture.
